HRLN activists, community leaders work to ensure access to food, primary healthcare, and education in Delhi village

    meeting
    Date : 07/06/2015

Chhilla Khadar is a community of 1,600 homeless families fromDalit and Other Backward Caste communities wholive on a fertile piece of land along Yamuna River near Mayur Vihar Metro Station. Most of the people from the area work as agricultural laborers in the vast lush green fields where they grow vegetables. These farmlands are owned by big farmers who reside in other parts of the city.

One of the cluster leaders Shri Guddu Nakesh approached Human Rights Law Network to help them to get an Anganwadi Centre under the Integrated Childhood Development Scheme, an important right to food scheme in India. Anganwadis provide children ages 0-6 with a hot meal, distribute supplementary nutrition to pregnant and lactating women, and ensure basic nutrition to adolescents.
