Breaking: Student leader Thokchom Veewon, charged with Sedition, granted bail by Imphal Court
Student leader Thokchom Veewon was picked up from Delhi on February 14th and charged with Sedition. The activist has been vocal in his protest against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill and the detention of journalist Kishorechandra Wangkhem under NSA in Manipur.
Subsequently, a lower court in Delhi granted transit remand to Manipur Police to take the activist to Manipur. The activist challenged the order in the High Court.
The Delhi High Court dismissed activist’s plea challenging his arrest and Thokchom Veewon was taken to Manipur to be produced before Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM), Imphal East, who granted bail to the activist citing no sufficient ground to give ‘prima facie’ for charges slapped against him.
Thokchom Veewon was represented by Adv. Ali Zia Kabir Choudhary and Adv. Meihoubam Rakesh who are associated with HRLN.
