Right to Information Initiative

In India, RTI Act was introduced in 2005 and it is widely regarded as one of the most important legislations passed by the Parliament since Independence. Subject to the provisions of this Act, all citizens shall have the Right to Information. The Act gives a statutory status to citizens’ democratic right to be informed about matters of governance and to progressively make its functioning and dealings comprehensible to public.

Right to Information covers all constitutional authorities, including the executive, legislature and judiciary, any institution or body established or constituted by an act of Parliament or a state legislature.
