The petition was filed seeking to challenge the prohibitory order dated 23rd May 2020 issued by the Commissioner of Police under section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code inter alia prohibiting ‘inciting mistrust towards government functionaries’ as being violative of article 19(1)(a) in as much as the prohibitions contained therein amount to prior restraint which has been repeatedly held to be unconstitutional by the Apex Court.
