Writ Petition (Civil) 749 0f 2014, The Gauhati High Court at Guwahati Medical treatment for an acid attack survivor is critical for living a life of dignity; it is also the responsibility of the state to provide the survivor with adequate and free medical treatment. In this recent order by the Guwahati High Court, two survivors, N and K, were granted full compensation for their medical treatment. The order directs the State Government to directly pay all the expenses of their treatment to the hospital. The sisters will be treated in Delhi, by the hospitals suggested by the medical board. The court has shown sensitivity by also granting reimbursements for the travel and stay in Delhi for both the sisters and an escort. N and K are sisters and were attacked along with their mother in 2013, by two unidentified men. While N is 21 years old, K is still a minor. Prior to this order a minimum sum of compensation was paid to the three victims. After passing the latest order the court has dismissed the petition.
