The present writ petition has been filed under Article 226 for directing the Respondents to conduct a survey of the evicted slum dwellers from Dr. RadhaKrishnan Nagar Slum Area, Arumbakkam, Chennai and rehabilitate them in accordance with the Tamil Nadu Slum Areas (Improvement and Clearance) Act, 1971 before the Madras High Court.
Dr. RadhaKrishnan Nagar is a Slum area where people have been residing in the place for the last 4 decades and all of them were daily wagers. On 29.07.2021 around 125 houses were forcibly evicted without any prior notice during the hard times of the ongoing pandemic and monsoon. Where 93 residents were selectively rehabilitated and the remaining residents were not allotted for rehabilitation. Hence the present petition has been filed against the illegal eviction and for the proper rehabilitation of the evicted slum dwellers under the Tamil Nadu Slum Areas(Improvement and Clearance) Act, 1971,
The present writ petition was represented by the Advocates Mr. Arun Kasi & Mr. Pradeep Raja. T before the Hon’ble Madras High Court.
