More than 300 alleged 'foreigners' detained in Assam detention centres released after petition in Supreme Court

This Petition was filed by the petitioner seeking release of her husband from a foreigners detention centre in Assam. The Petitioner's husband had been declared a foreigner by a Foreigners Tribunal in an ex-parte order, and had been in the detention centre for over two years. The Supreme Court passed an order that all persons who had been in detention for more than 2 years to be released, and  reduced the amount to be paid as surety from Rs. 1,00,000 to Rs. 5,000. As a result of this order, more than 300 detenus were released from different detention centres in Assam.
