Release of persons in Detention Centres

Raju Bala Das vs Union of India and Anr | Supreme Court of India | Status: Disposed off | Case filed on 31, Mar 2020 | |

In an important order in the case of Raju Bala vs Union of Indian and State of Assam, filed in the Supreme Court of India on behalf of persons in the detention camps the Supreme Court today directed that all those who had been in the detention camps for two years be released. This order modifies the earlier order of the Supreme Court, requiring three years detention for release. The second important modification is that whereas earlier the surety for release was one lakh this has now been reduced to 5000. This will come as a welcome release to hundreds of persons detained in the camps.
