Tribal land occupied by Assam Rifles and ITBP

Shri Kanam Mipi & Anr versus State of Arunachal Pradesh & 8 ors, Writ Petition (C) no. 74 of 2017, Gauhati High Court, permanent of Itanagar The community land Mipi (Ediya) Village is presently illegally occupied by ITBP, Dibang Valley, District A.P. The ITBP took over the said community land in 2005 from Assam Rifles which was their illegal occupation. The said land were taken by Assam Rifles in 1955 from the Mipi villagers by promising to pay compensation but till today, they have not paid a dime to the poor tribal villagers. The villagers have been deprived of community land for many decades and are still waiting for compensation. They were stopped from carrying out horticulture and agriculture activities. Many poor villagers now remain landless and many lost their mode of livelihood. They filed this petition, seeking directions for restoration of their ancestral land.
