SLIC Advocate, Doma Bhutia's work on maternal health in Sikkim was recently recognized

The SLIC Reproductive Rights Unit is proud to announce that SLIC Advocate, Doma Bhutia's work on maternal health in Sikkim was recently recognized in the December issue of "Talk Sikkim"! The article highlights the serious deficiencies in National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) implementation. In her Public Interested Litigation (PIL), Advocate Dr. Bhutia makes clear that a "denial of proper health care is [a] denial of the right to life." Most recently, the Sikkim High Court ordered the state government to ensure the availability of life saving drugs in all hospitals and health centers, if they were not already available. SLIC, its advocates, and activists work tirelessly to promote human rights throughout India.
