Public Education in Mumbai: Rhetoric or Rights? - Report of the Indian People’s Tribunal on Environment and Human Rights

By Aruna Kashyap The Indian People's Tribunal for Environment and Human Rights' in conjunction with organizing groups from Mumbai created a four-member Tribunal, headed by Justice H. Suresh (Retd.), to inquire into the status of children's right to elementary education in Mumbai. This Tribunal was primarily concluded by means of a public hearing in Mumbai on 1 and 2 July 2006. The intention was to provide a platform for members of the public as well as government officials, including' persons from the education department, to share their experience with municipal schools in Mumbai.
