SOUTH 24 PARGANAS DISTRICT MEETING

South Twenty Four Parganas is the largest district of West Bengal State and the second most populous district, located at the northern coast of Bay of Bengal.   It shares a long international border with Bangladesh to the East. There are 2042 villages, 29 Community Development Blocks (C.D. Blocks) and 7 Municipalities in the district in 2011 which are under 33 Police Stations.

According to the 2011 Census South Twenty Four Parganas district had a population of 8,161,961.  There are 24,64,032 persons with 30.19 per cent population are belong to Scheduled Castes and 1.19 per cent with 96,976 population are Scheduled Tribes. The average literacy of the district is 77.51 per cent where male literacy is 83.35 and female literacy is 71.40 per cent.

People living in South 24 Parganas depend on multiple skills, total workers are 2,964,494 out of which men are 2,356,571 and women are 607,923. Total 263,077 Cultivators are depended on agriculture farming out of 242,788 are cultivated by men and 20,289 are women. 388,993 people works in agricultural land as labour, men are 357,354 and 31,639 are women.

On 14.08.2021 SLIC organized a district meeting along with 30 participants came from different organizations. Most of the women participants came from Savitribai Phule Mahila Samity of Garagachha slum under the leadership of Manda Bijali who filed a PIL for getting Ration Cards.  Adv. Ramprasad Sardar organized this meeting with the help of Saradindu Biswas at Garia Pragati Patha Bhawan, Garia Station Road near the Garia Bus Stand. 
At 10:30 a.m. the programme was started with registration of names of the participants followed by the inaugural talk of Saradindu Biswas. Different topics were included in the programme schedule such as 1)
Commission for Protection of Child Rights Act. 2005 2) National Food Security Act. 2013. NFSA, RKSY and Ration on the door step and 3) SC ST (POA) Act. 1989.   

 

The programme was started with an opening song by Subal Haldar an active member of Prakriti Sevasram Sangha.
