University forced to change admission form for Transgender Lady

Date : 03/02/2020

Alia Sk, a transgender lady wanted to pursue her M.Phil in Clinical Psychology, was unable to fill up her form owing to the fact that the university only had male and Female options on their gender column. Upon approaching HRLN, the matter was immediately brought to the notice of the High Court at Calcutta. The High Court did not waste any time and ordered for immediate change in the form. The Registrar of the university was directed to facilitate the submission of the admission form by the petitioner. The High Court also intends to examine as to why the NALSA guidelines have not been implemented yet by the state Government.
