Assam

As a state long troubled by conflict, the civilian populace in Assam has frequently been victim to excesses by both, the State and non-State actors. The unit focuses on issues of disappearance of young people in custody of the army, trafficking of women and children, migration related matters, cases concerning reproductive and health rights.

The Assam unit was established in 2008 at Guwahati. Apart from addressing matters from within the state, the Unit provides support to other units from the neighboring northeastern states. A lot of the cases from neighboring states are transferred to the Assam unit for the principal bench at the Guwahati High Court to decide on them.
